Ladies and gentlemen, good morning!

Also, this year of 2017 will be a year of progress.
Ever since we've held "the 51st Tokyo Gift Show" using the West Halls, each time the halls had been always packed and some of the exhibitors could not fit in, even after we added the entire Tokyo Big Sight and Atrium. I would like to apologize for the inconvenience.

Our previous mission was "to provide the exhibitors better business environment and to offer the buyers beautiful and fascinating store displays".
But this time Feb. 2017, we present you the 10 days Gift Show WEEK including the exhibition fair with our new slogan, "from Japan's Largest to World's Largest".

Today, we are blessed to have so many guests to "the 83rd Tokyo International Gift Show Spring 2017 LIFE×DESIGN", as it started its first week from Feb 1 (Wed.) to 3 (Fri.) at the East Hall 1-3. "The 1st International Premium Beauty&Health Show" will be held from 6 (Mon.) to 9 (Thu.) at the East Hall 7. During the second week, "the 83rd Tokyo International Gift Show" will be held at the East Hall 1-8, the West Hall 1-2, and the Atrium, "the 55th Tokyo International Premium Incentive Show" will be held at the West hall 3-4, and last but not least, "the 21st Gourmet and DiningStyle Show" will be held at the East Hall 3.
The total display area covers 123,110m2 which is 1.5 times bigger than the previous events, you never find any other events with such scale.
As 300,000 participants are estimated to visit us, I strongly believe that this exhibition will be a successful and productive one for both the exhibitors and guests.

I hereby declare the opening of the 83rd Tokyo International Gift Show Spring 2017 LIFE×DESIGN.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Yukio Iwabuchi, Director for Tourism-related Service Industries, Creative Industries Division, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, METI, delivered a congratulatory address.
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry promotes "Cool Japan" strategy. The Ministry set creative industries such as fashion, design, traditional craftsmanship, food, contents business and so on, as the pillar industries in Japan's economic development. Particularly, in response to the changes in sense of value reflecting people's wish to pursue "richness in mind," the Ministry focuses on the proposals not only product development by technology but also suggestions to search a truly desired life and sense of fulfillment.
Now we are in the era of Fourth Industrial Revolution, it becomes important, to yearn the additional value, which is neither substituted by Artificial Intelligence nor Robotics. For this purpose, the Ministry keeps discussing to promote understanding the importance of training designers and design in the industrial management.
In this Gift Show LIFE×DESIGN which opened today, "quality life" and "new idea of lifestyle" will be proposed, based on the keywords such as High quality merchandise, Renovation, SOZAI (materials), IoT, Products, and so on.
This trade show, which gathers the excellent products, effects greatly on Japan's economy, through expanding a new sales route, and by new economic effectiveness. I hope that the exhibiting companies and visitors have a fruitful time and also have new opportunities for trading as well as significant results.
On behalf of the exhibitors, Mr. Asao Sakamoto, the president of Sakamoto Urushi Manufacturing Co., Ltd., made a congratulatory message.
I would like to say a few words on behalf of 591 exhibitors at Gift Show LIFE×DESIGN.
Among Gift Show WEEK, held for 2 weeks starting from today, I think LIFE×DESIGN is a sensibility-rich trade show focusing on power of Japanese manufacturing, craftsmanship, and design.
As we enter the 21st century, consumption behavior has changed due to shifting to Internet Society. Under the circumstances, if the future is unexpectable with these changes, how can we create new value?
I believe one solution is producing totally new things no one ever seen before by dissolving a company's existing things and skills to each element to collaborate with other company.
This show is the great opportunity for companies to make a step forward into new world using their core products and skills. I deeply hope that exhibitors make most of it by interacting with not only visitors but also with other exhibitors.

ギフト・ショーLIFE×DESIGN 注目のフェア
『 RENOVETTA® 』 (East Hall 2)
The special area supervised by Mr. Toshiyuki Kita, a world-wide designer.
A Special Area based on collaboration between internationally active product designer Toshiyuki Kita's "RENOVETTA®" (renovation project) and the Gift Show's "LIFE× DESIGN" comes on stage. RENOVETTAR proposes instead creation of a "gathering place" by taking down and clearing away the minute partitions of the typical Japanese house and reducing it to a skeleton. By creating well-made spaces, it is possible to facilitate the lasting use of fine objects and furniture, to incorporate nature and the seasons, to have great conversations…the "RENOVETTAR" project offers these transformed spaces through realization of such desirable homes and by matching the result to the resident's lifestyle and privacy requirements.
At Gift Show LIFE×DESIGN, we proposes a total renovation with the realization of a room made on the basis of the "RENOVETTAR" concept and the provision of the furniture and lighting sundries indispensable for a pleasant home-life. Furthermore, this project figures also as a platform for Japan's traditional crafts, featuring furniture utilizing the production areas' skills and materials. Do experience this renovation presented by Mr. Toshiyuki Kita, a designer active at the cutting edge of design.
